Nervous tissue
Nervous Tissue is found in the brain, spinal cord, and peripheral nerves. This tissue is responsible for carrying out all informational signals in our body's. Tells your body what you want it to do. There are two main types of cells in the nervous system: Neurons and Neuroglia. Neurons, or nerve cells, sense certain types of change in their surroundings. They transmit nerve impulses to other neurons or to muscle or glands. Since the neurons communicate so well with each other, muscle, and gland cells they coordinate, regulate, and integrate many body functions. Neuroglia are the support cells and hold the components of the nervous tissue together. These cells help supply nutrients to the neurons by connecting them to blood vessels.
Types of Membranes
Epithelial membranes are the thin, sheetlike membranes composed of epithelium and connective tissue. This covers body surfaces and lines body cavities like organs. An organ is two or more kinds of tissues grouped together that perform specialized functions.
There are three major types of epithelial membranes and they are the serous membrane, the mucous membrane, and the cutaneous membrane.
The serous membrane lines all the body cavities lacking opening to the outside. They form the inter linings of the thorax and abdomen, and they cover the organs within these cavities. This type of membrane consist of squamous epithelium and connective tissue. The cells in this membrane secrete watery serous fluid, which lubricates the membrane surface. The mucous membrane lines the cavities and tubes that open to the outside of the body. That means that this membrane lines the oral and nasal cavities and the digestive, respiratory, urinary, and reproductive systems tubes. This membrane contains goblet cells that secrete mucus. The cutaneous membrane is the last of the major three epithelial membranes. This membrane is commonly known as the skin. Another type of membrane is a synovial membrane, this lines the joints in the body and is composed of entirely connective tissues.
